    Asian Rhinoplasty

    Last updated 7 months ago

A July report in the Vancouver Sun, reported an upswing in the number of rhinoplasty surgeries performed on Asian patients. While most patients schedule their rhinoplasty (nose job) to decrease the size of their nose, or to make its shape smaller, Asian patients have something different in mind. Their rhinoplasty goal is to make their nose more prominent and proportional.

The number of Asian rhinoplasty procedures has seen a 50% increase over the past two years. What is sometimes referred to as an Oriental rhinoplasty, is a relatively newer trend, and not the traditional “nose-job” that many Caucasians desire.

Botox Cosmetic, the Cure for Everything?

    Last updated 7 months ago

Botox Cosmetic, you are really a girl’s best friend!  Not only are you the world’s greatest wrinkle-wiper, migraine-mellower, sweat-stopper, bladder-balancer, osteoarthritis-obliterator, and now . . .  ACNE ERASER?  What can this precious little poison not do?

Dr. Anil Shah, a Chicago area cosmetic / plastic surgeon, is one of a handful of doctors who has started using Botox Cosmetic as an official treatment for adult onset acne.  Through Dr. Shah’s extensive knowledge of botulinum toxin, and remarkable vision, he embarked on a new regime for his patients struggling with acne.  Dr. Shah knew that Botox Cosmetic blocks the chemical acetylcholine, which inhibits muscle activity.  He was also aware that acetylcholine is responsible for increasing sebum production in the skin’s dermis, which essentially feeds bad bacteria.  When the acetylcholine is temporarily halted, sebum production ends, and the bacteria that causes pimples is starved.

Understanding Your Liposuction: The 4 Questions to Ask Your Plastic Surgeon

    Last updated 7 months ago

Chances are, if you haven’t had Liposuction, you know someone who has.  It is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world; in the United States alone, over 325,000 Liposuction procedures were performed in 2011.  No matter how common the surgery has become, Liposuction is still an invasive procedure, requiring heavy consideration.  To ensure your Liposuction will be safe and effective, with long-lasting results, there are four key questions to ask yourself and your plastic surgeon before your procedure.

    1. Are you a good candidate for Liposuction?

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the best candidates for Liposuction will have localized fat deposits, causing disproportionate body contours (such as “love-handles”), which remain even after diet and exercise.  Since Liposuction will only remove the underlying fat cells, ASAPS recommends that the skin above the target area be smooth and tight.

    2. What kind of Liposuction is best for you?

Liposuction procedures can be very safe and effective.  After a sedative and anesthetic are administered, very small incisions are made under the skin of the targeted area.  Depending on your body type, and the amount of fatty tissue being removed, your surgeon will either use an ultrasound, or a laser, to melt the fat cells before aspiration.  Please make sure to choose a Board Certificated Plastic Surgeon to perform the surgery.  Procedures like Cool Lipo, Water Lipo, Fast Lipo, Body Jet Lipo, Vaser Lipo and Magic Lipo may sound great but the surgeon is the main factor in receiving the best results.

Hot Reality Moms: Not So "Real"

    Last updated 7 months ago

Everything on TV is not as perfect as it first appears.  With that being said, who hasn’t watched a little reality television and thought, “How does that mom look so good?”  The next time you sit down with the remote, remember to keep things in perspective.  Just because a mom can Keep Up With the Kardashians, has survived being a Teen Mom, or is Plus 8 . . . certainly doesn’t mean her awesome looks come naturally.

Kris Kardashian:  Kris could make any mommy jealous!  She has 6 kids, two grandkids, more than one successful business, and always looks like she is well rested and put together.  Kris has help from nannies to stylists, but most importantly a fabulous cosmetic surgeon, to help with skin care, as well as raising and tightening anything that begins to sag.

Before You Get That Smokin' Body - Stop Smoking

    Last updated 7 months ago

One of the questions any good cosmetic surgeon will ask you, when assessing your readiness for surgery, will be if you are a smoker.  At first, this may seem like just another medical professional nagging about your smoking habit.  Think again.

Smoking has a direct impact on your surgical results.  Facelifts,Botox Cosmetic injections, and facial fat transfers are just a few of the procedures that can have their results ruined by smoking.  Continued exposure to smoke will make your tight, smooth skin become leathery and dull.  Constant puffing will force wrinkles to form around your lips and at the edges of your eyes.  The irritants in cigarette smoke can also cause bags and dark circles under your eyes.
